What is Grammarly?

Grammarly is every writer's best friend. It's a powerful writing assistant that eliminates errors that most spell checkers miss.

You can integrate Grammarly into your web browser and word processing applications. Plus, you can download the Grammarly app to make sure your emails, InMails and social posts are also error free.

One of the best things about using Grammarly for your Dubai job search is that it's free to get started. The free version is amazing, although I would recommend using the Premium version to perfect the final version of your CV.

How does Grammarly work?

By analysing your text, Grammarly will compare it to a massive database of grammar rules and best practices.

Grammarly then generates suggestions for how to improve your writing. These suggestions can be accepted or rejected, and you can also customise the settings to fit your individual needs.

Grammarly is available as a browser extension, a desktop app, and a mobile app. It doesn't even matter what software you use to write your CV. Grammarly can be used with a host of popular writing tools, including Google Docs, Microsoft Word, and Gmail.

4 examples of how to use Grammarly in your Dubai job search

Let's look at 4 ways that I use Grammarly. I'll explain how you can do the same to enhance your Dubai job search process.

1. I use Grammarly for spelling and grammar checking

I’ve integrated Grammarly into Microsoft Word to provide seamless document checking. I don't want any mistakes on a CV or cover letter that I'm writing so I make sure Grammarly is always on.

Grammarly does an amazing job of finding mistakes which may get missed. For example, missing hyphens, wrong word usage and inconsistent sentence structures.

If you are writing your CV for Dubai, Grammarly will help you to avoid embarrassing mistakes.

2. Grammarly improves my writing

Grammarly will highlight sentences or phrases which are correct but could be better.

For instance, Grammarly will alert me when my phrasing could be more concise.

The example below shows that Grammarly does not like it when I write ‘in order to’ and suggests that I shorten it to ‘to’.

With Grammarly, my writing has become a lot clearer and more concise!

The premium version of Grammarly will advise on even more advanced issues.

3. I use Grammarly to check my emails

I send a lot of emails and I’m actually good at spelling and grammar. But I still use Grammarly because it catches little mistakes I might have missed as I quickly type messages.

This works especially well if you are sending lots of messages on a platform such as LinkedIn, as Grammarly can be integrated into your web browser.

If you are currently looking for a job and sending out messages to your network or hiring managers, then Grammarly is a must.

Don’t send a bad first impression with a message full of typos which shows lack of care and attention to detail.

4. Grammarly checks my social media posts

I could write my posts out in Word first, do a spellcheck and then copy over to social media, but who has time for that?!

When writing for social media, it’s so important to write clearly and accurately.

If your audience are not confident that they understand what you’re communicating, then they are unlikely to engage. Your piece of content will disappear, and the time you spent writing it will have been wasted.

While mistakes can be forgiven in some instances, it is always better to write accurately. In some instances, how you write on social media can directly impact on the results you are trying to achieve.

When you're commenting on posts from Dubai recruitment agencies or your target companies you need to make sure your text is error free.

I’ve been amazed to see copywriters and marketers sharing misspelled content on LinkedIn in the hopes of finding a new job. I wouldn’t hire a copywriter that doesn’t check their work. Would you?

What else can Grammarly do for your Dubai CV?

Grammarly does more than identify and correct grammar, spelling and punctuation. It even suggests ways in which you can make your text clearer and easy to read.

Here are some of my favourite Grammarly features:

• Grammarly can help you improve your grammar, spelling, and punctuation.

• It can help you make your writing more clear and concise by eliminating unnecessary words.

• The powerful AI will help you select stronger verbs and more effective language. When it comes to job searching, you need to be persuasive. The language in your emails, CV and LinkedIn profile needs to sell you and your skills to the reader. This is why this feature is so helpful!

• Grammarly will help you tailor your writing to your audience. Tell it what tone you are targeting and it will suggest improvements.

Conclusion

I hope that you're convinced in the power of Grammarly! This is one of the best free tools out there on the market.
